HPiC WEBSITE NEWS

HPiC Website News aims to keep readers up to date with recently launched
internet websites in the field of health promotion. The newsletter contains
health information and campaign sites, sites of relevant organisations, and
sites which are recommended as good examples of design for the internet.


Alcohol

The AERC administers the UK's Alcohol Education and Research Fund, which

those with drinking problems. The council aims to make a positive difference

The BBC Health & Fitness website contains a wide array of independent health
information. It's connection to a daily news feed from BBC News, keeps users
up-to-date with health developments. The site includes online voting,
quizzes and discussion forums - such as Fighting Fat, Fighting Fit and Kick
the Habit - to provide users with varying degrees of interactivity.

to unbiased, trustworthy health information.  The site aims to bring
information about disease, treatment, prevention, and support together in a
co-ordinated site.  The website also features online interviews with health
and health related professionals.

Work and the Workplace

This website from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides comprehensive
information about work-related diseases and injuries, and how to prevent
them. Topics include indoor air quality, noise and hearing protection, and
violence in the workplace.


As part of the process of change to the Health Development Agency from the
Health Education Authority we will be reviewing all information services
currently available from the Health Promotion Information Centre (HPiC). The
HPiC Website News bulletin is being suspended as part of this process.
Inclusion in HPiC Website News does not imply endorsement by the HEA, and
the HEA takes no responsibility for the content of links provided.

The HPiC will be closed between the 31st March and 30th May 2000. However,
during this time a number of websites will continue to offer access to
regularly updated information including:

HealthPromis, the national database for health promotion in England is
available on the internet at http://healthpromis.hea.org.uk . The database
provides links and references to official publications, surveys, reports,
books, research, websites, journal articles and resources (such as videos
and teaching materials).

The Our Healthier Nation Website at http://www.ohn.gov.uk is a major gateway
to information on all aspects of Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation, the
government wide health strategy for England. The website provides links to a
wide range of related work across government, provides access to online
information, research networks and includes the Our Healthier Nation in
Practice Database. A weekly news digest service is also available from the
website and can be delivered to your desk by email.

HAZnet at http://www.haznet.org.uk provides information for and about Health
Action Zones plus key references and links, mailing lists and discussion
boards for those interested in the HAZ initiative.

We are looking forward to developing a re-focussed information service to
support the new Health Development Agency.
