I'm starting out on a new web site enhancement, dynamic maps, on my web
site pages for Mark Twain's The Innocents Abroad. I've got the mapping
modules working, now I need the juice. Has anyone developed and/or is a
gazetteer available for his travels as portrayed in The Innocents
Abroad? I am aware of the Quaker City Itinerary and intend to start
with it, but there are so many more points of interest discussed in the
book I would like to include. An index of the book would be close to
ideal, listing all the sites. I need to determine latitude and
longitudes for each point and compose some discussion of each. I would
look into the Day By Day publication but it's way beyond my budget of $0
to spend and I don't believe it is in a nearby library.
My current methodology is to scan through the book and note each point.
I don't really mind the thought of rereading the book again. I had just
hoped to save a bit of time.
I have seen some interesting mapping pages of the voyage but they
present the entire journey on a single map and my intention is to be of
a much finer granularity. My web site has an individual page for each
chapter of the book each with a unique map. It is my intention to map
all the points of interest mentioned in each chapter on these individual
maps.
