Actually - this is NOT about the Sanborn book, but I am having trouble
getting access to my system and it is easier to "reply" to previous
messages (if Twain had trouble with the telephone - consider how email
would have driven him out of the house!).

I have received a couple of queries about the Mark Twain Circle of
America. I thought a quick advertisement was in order.

The Circle was founded several years ago. The intention was to bring
a group of individuals (scholars, fans) together to share their interest
in Mark Twain. We now have approximately 300 members. The Circle is
now affiliated with MLA and will have two panels at that conference. We
have also been active in the recently formed American Literature Assoc.
at which we also offer two panels. There is a newsletter - The Mark
Twain Circular - that is sent to all members (it is also possible to
get a subscription to Tom Tenney's Mark Twain Journal).

Membership in the Circle is $7/year.

If you would like to join, send a check for $7 made out to The Mark
Twain Circle of America. Send that check to:

        Michael J. Kiskis
        Executive Coordinator

My telephone # is 518-587-2100/x. 272.

I hope to hear from some of you - we are always looking for new members.
And tell your friends and colleagues.
