CANCHID Subscribers, Below is a query sent to the Canadian Society for
International Health and re-posted here for whatever help CANCHID members
can offer. It is one person looking for an appropriate program and I have
posted it (a) so that someone might give advice, and (b) to remind us of
the fact that we -as a community interested in Health in International
Development - have not yet pulled together a good, updated, source of what
programs are available where.
Earlier today I participated in the Elsevier Training Seminar for the on-line
use of the EMBASE and EMBASE ALERT Medical and Health databases of articles.
I was struck by the fact that we can easily obtain tonnes of information about
what has been published, and how important this is in research, in practice,
and in keeping trained specialists up to date. At the same time we are very
poorly organized to provide the right education to the right recipients in
the right place and at the right time.
The electronic venue (this virtual workspace) is ideally suited to provide
the type of information sought by the writer below. It is also ideally suited
to providing much of the education sought in the area of Health and Internat-
ional Development. At the upcoming CUCHID/CSIH Conference (November 12-15) in
Ottawa there will be a panel with the following theme.
The future of Global Electronic Networks in Health Education,
Research and Policy Coordination
CANCHID subscribers with views on either the proposed panel (above) or
the request below are invited to comment here (on CANCHID) or to myself
(CANCHID LIstManager: [log in to unmask] ) or the author of the query below.

I have been searching for doctoral programs in Health
Economics, Policy and/or Administration with a concentration in
International Health and Development. After phoning the
Admissions Departments of all Canadian universities, I have only
come up with the University of Toronto's Health Policy and
Administration Program through their Department of Community
Health. After phoning most of the programs in the United States
that offer masters programs in health administration, I have
only found one very expensive doctoral program (Johns Hopkins)
with an international development focus.
Although many universities offer masters degree programs, is
the University of Toronto the only Canadian university to offer
doctoral work in Health Policy, and Johns Hopkins is the only
university offering doctoral work with an international
development focus to health policy and administration?
I would appreciate any leads in this area.
Sincerely,
Diane Watson
