CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The uOttawa-GLUK-UWISON Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Health Research is a one-year research award, intended to actively support junior researchers who have the passion, commitment, and leadership capacity to use research to address urgent global health challenges. Fellowships must be tailored to an approved health systems or community health research focus.

The award will support a postdoctoral fellow for 11 months of mentored training on-site at either University of Ottawa (uOttawa; Ottawa, Canada), The UWI School of Nursing, Mona (UWISON; Kingston, Jamaica) or Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK; Kisumu, Kenya), along with one-month participation in the international research internship at either UWISON or GLUK.

For 2015, at least three awards will be available:
*one postdoc will be based at the uOttawa with Dr. Nancy Edwards;
*one postdoc will be based at UWISON with Dr. Eulalia Kahwa (focus must be on chronic non-communicable diseases);
*one postdoc will be based at GLUK with Dr. Dan Kaseje (preference given to East African applicants).

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications will be reviewed based on a rolling admission policy. Candidates are invited to submit their applications at any time. The application will then be reviewed and the applicant will be notified of the decision within a few weeks.

EXPECTATIONS
During the fellowship period, Fellows are required to:
1. Apply for an external personnel award for a subsequent postdoctoral or junior researcher award (e.g. Banting Award, Wellcome Trust training fellowship in public health and tropical medicine, CIHR new investigator award);
2. Develop your program of research;
3. Submit at least one abstract to the GLUK's Annual Scientific Conference or UWISON's Annual Nursing and Midwifery Conference;
4. Attend and act as mentors in the GLUK or UWISON International Research Internship in May and June 2015.

ELIGIBILITY
All applicants must:
* Demonstrate keen interest in a long-term research career in health systems or community health research relevant to lower- and middle-income country contexts
* Have completed a PhD in health sciences, public health, community health, epidemiology, or other relevant disciplines
* Have published at least two articles in peer reviewed journals
* Confirm availability to travel to Kenya or Jamaica to participate on-site in the GLUK or UWISON International Conference and Research Internship in May/June 2015
* Canadian-based applicants must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
* Preference will be given to East African candidates for the fellowship at GLUK
* The UWISON Fellowship has no citizenship restrictions
