I can't think of anything Twain wrote about the art of the inside joke, but
a good example of an inside joke of his own was the one I dissected in
delirious detail in the Mark Twain Journal (52:2; Fall, 2014). Did I forget
to mention exactly what that joke was? Nope. To find out, you must pull that
issue off the shelf if you already subscribe to the MTJ. If you don't
subscribe to the MTJ you can visit their website and repent.

Subject: Twain on inside jokes?

?All--

A colleague has asked if Twain ever made any reference to the strategy and/=
or effect of inside jokes. I couldn't come up with anything offhand. I fi=
gured this was the place to seek help. Any ideas?
