From the last e-bulletin today of the Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC) in Nova Scotia comes the distressing news: HPC is Closing its Office
I had missed reading the earlier notice in the May HPC e-bulletin that came out in late May, while I was at the Canadian Public Health Association conference, ironically, on the same day that I was part of a session on the future of health promotion in Canada.
The Health Promotion Clearinghouse has been a vital hub for health promotion in their province, the Atlantic Region and across the country. I hope that there are ways to support the HPC legacy in community health promotion. Its loss will be keenly felt.

Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC) - End of an era.

Dear Friends,

As mentioned in our last e-bulletin, due to funding cuts, the Board of Directors closed the HPC office on May 31, 2015, and today (June 22nd) is the last day for staff.

Serving more than 50,000 people annually, HPC has existed for close to 15 years to support Nova Scotia's health promoters to foster healthy people and healthy communities. We have emphasized prevention and the importance of working together to address the social, economic and environmental factors that support population health, health equity and social justice. We've coordinated learning opportunities related to youth homelessness and bullying, taking action on poverty, mental health and addictions, health-related behaviour change, use of social media, food security, and health equity, to name a few.

We'd like to thank our 1100 members and 1500 e-bulletin subscribers for your active support over these past 15 years, and we know that you will continue your passionate work within your communities to support health promotion and protection.

As to next steps for HPC, the Board of Directors are continuing to meet to determine the future of the organization, and in what capacity it may, or may not continue. The board expects to have an update after the summer period - sometime in September. Members of the board will also be checking the site periodically over this period (every 2 weeks), ensuring that any questions sent via the website are responded to (www.hpclearinghouse.ca<http://www.hpclearinghouse.ca>) .

Your Sincerely,

HPC Staff and Board of Directors
