On *September 25, 2012*, Dr. Alexander (Sandy) Simpson, Head of Law and
Mental Health Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health will
present *“Applebaum’s Balloon: violence, psychosis and the effects of
different societal responses”*. ‘Imagine coercion is like a balloon.
Squeeze one piece and it will bulge out somewhere else’. Are new forms of
coercion needed? Are we at greater risk? And Is it possible to have a
mental health system without coercion? Insights into these issues from the
literature of the interface between mental health services, civil
commitment and criminal justice system involvement will be provided. [For

On *October 2, 2012*, Dr. Judy White, Associate Professor and Associate
Dean Faculty of Social Work, University of Regina will present *“The
Reducing Mental Health Disparities (RMHD) Project: Focus on the lives of
indigenous and racialized immigrant women”.* Exploring the mental health
situation of racialized immigrant and indigenous women living in Saskatoon
through participatory action research. Emphasizing the important links
between research process and outcomes and implications for health policy

On *October 9, 2012*, Dr. Robert Whitley, Assistant Professor, Division of
Social and Transcultural Psychiatry, McGill University, will present *“News
Media Coverage of Mental Illness”*. Canadian news media, the coverage of
mental illness, the damaging impact on people with mental illness and how
Canadian Journalism schools are working to incorporate anti-stigma. [For

On *October 16, 2012*, Dr. Terry Krupa, Professor in the School of
Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen’s University will present *“Advancing
social business as a means to creating employment options with mental
illness”.* This webinar is the first in a series of webinars in
collaboration with CAMH's Community Support and Research Unit. Social
businesses have dual social and revenue-generation goals, creating
employment opportunities for people with mental illnesses while aiming for
financial sustainability. Evaluation of the critical features of social
businesses, the challenges of growth, sustainability and acceptance are
