Hi Scott,

I'm doing some work on Twain's times in London at the moment so your question piqued my interest. Not sure if images will send on this list but here's an advertisement for the "new first-class" Prince of Wales Hotel which had just opened in De Vere Gardens, Kensington, from the London Daily Telegraph and Courier, Wednesday 16 September, 1896. Seems to have been operating into the early 1960s. As I'm sure you know, Henry James lived in De Vere Gardens at this time too! Hope this is useful.

Best wishes,

Tom

I want to thank Barbara for this heads-up on searching. I suppose the
hotel had not yet been built at the time Baedeker had written that tour
guide. I've ordered a later edition in hope it has more information on
this residential hotel. I want to include it as a location in Twain's
Geography but I've just discovered a technical glitch that prevents me
from adding images. The advertising image is perfect but leaves me a
bit confused as to the relationship between The Prince of Wales Hotel
and the De Vere Hotel.
