Hello Madeline,

I have recently seen health impact assessment tools used in Europe and
the UK, and in Australia that may meet your needs. An excellent source
of information and resources in Canada for HIAs is the Knowledge
Utilization/Utilisation des Connaissances at
http://kuuc.chair.ulaval.ca/
Check out:
* The International Health Impact Assessment Consortium (IMPACT)
in the UK (www.ihia.org.uk) is a multi-agency partnership formed to help
further the research, study and practice of Health Impact Assessment
(HIA). You can search six types of information: completed HIA reports,
journal articles, websites and organisations, books, thesis, conference
proceedings.
* Health Impact Assessment Guidance
http://www.publichealth.ie/index.asp?locID=489&docID=581 This
document by The Institute of Public Health in Ireland describes Health
Impact Assessment (HIA) and the steps involved in HIA. It gives advice
based on the experience of HIA practitioners and provides tools to help
carry out these steps and adapt HIA to local circumstances.
* The European Commission has a policy document called Mental Health
Promotion and Mental Disorder Prevention that recommends the use of
mental health impact assessments
http://ec.europa.eu/health/ph_projects/2002/promotion/fp_promotion_2002_
a01_16_en.pdf

* in Victoria state Australia, the Victorian government has done an
extensive amount of work on evidence-based health promotion, and has a
very comprehensive mental health promotion resource that uses HIA tools.
I recommend that you look through the Evidence-Based Health Promotion
section of their website at
http://www.health.vic.gov.au/healthpromotion/quality/evidence_index.htm
or contact the project manager Martin Horrocks directly (contact info on
the page).

Good luck! Let us know if you find appropriate tools.

Alison
