Two PhD/Post-doc Research Positions in Health Communication



Two positions are available at the PhD or Post-doc level in Health  
Communication at the University of Lugano (USI) in Lugano Switzerland.

The selected candidates will join the research team of Dr. Suzanne  
Suggs in the Institute for Communication and Health at USI. Primary  
responsibilities include designing, developing, implementing and  
evaluating tailored multi-media physical activity communication.  
Opportunities to work on projects addressing other lifestyle, disease  
management, and environmental issues are likely.


Qualifications:
Looking for people who have expertise and interest in health behavior  
change, technology, multi-media, tailored communication, physical  
activity, and marketing health. The successful candidates must be  
creative, techy, detail-oriented, flexible, independent, and have a  
strong research orientation. They must be able to see the big picture  
while focusing on the details. Candidates must have a sound  
understanding of tailored communication and be strong writers.

The right combination of 2 PhD students or 1 PhD student and 1 Post- 
doctoral fellow will be selected. The combined skill set will  
include: strong project management, research, planning and  
evaluation, writing (creative and academic), designing applications  
and message architecture, media production, and analytical skills.  
Must be able to write effective messages, design effective  
communication, market health programs and studies, recruit  
participants, design surveys, analyze data, and write research  
protocols. Proficiency in Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Spss, Excel, Word,  
Endnote, and other software is a plus. Both candidates must be fluent  
in English (written and verbal). One candidate must be fluent in  
Italian (written and verbal). Understanding of French or German is a  
plus. Candidates must be able to start working in Lugano between  
September 10 and February 11.

Academic program:
The PhD student(s) also work towards a Doctor of Philosophy in  
Communication Sciences with a specialization in Health Communication.  
The Post-doctoral Fellowship is in Health Communication. For more

Funding:
The PhD position is funded at 36,000 CHF + tuition waiver. The Post- 
doc position is at 75,000 CHF.  Moving expenses are not provided.
