Subject: hot peach pages
Getting survival information to women in abusive relationships has always
been a challenge. Virginia Fisher solved that problem in Saskatchewan by
persuading the phone company to publish "Hot Peach Pages" in the front of
their directories, where isolated women could find them, read them, and
keep them for reference.
Since then, she has uploaded the Hot Peach Pages to the Web, in 26
languages no less. And she invented an "Earth Words" button to indicate
the multilingual access. Shelter workers and women's groups can print off
the info sheets to distribute in immigrant communities. This is an
interesting model of using the Internet to make information available to
people when they need it, right where they are.
