Subject: Re: Dentists as Health Promoters
Hi Ellen,
In Ontario, Canada we have a partnership of dentists, doctors and pharmacist
associations aimed at providing training for effective minimal contact
intervensions (see the last link in the list). A quik websearch and I found
the links to resources/articles and I have also worked with the Canadian
Association of Dental Hygienists to promote smoking cessation within their
memberships...
Hope this all helps!

The Clinical Tobacco Intervention (CTI) Program is a cooperative effort
between the Ontario Pharmacists' Association, the Ontario Medical
Association and the Ontario Dental Association to mobilize and support
pharmacists, physicians and dentists to help their patients stop smoking and
prevent younger patients from beginning to smoke. Education of the health
care professionals forms the cornerstone of the CTI Program.
Multidisciplinary workshops are held in various locations across the
province, usually in the evening, include dinner and last about two hours.
Support staff are invited to accompany the practitioners and CE credits are
provided.
Additional resources provided by CTI include Pharmacist Education Kits,
educational materials for patients, Quit Connection Fax Referral Service and
the E-learning module Youth and Smoking Cessation: Meeting the Challenges.
To access these resources, and for more information, visit the CTI website
