As you may know SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment sponsors
monthly web events leading up to the official celebration of National
Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month every September. The events for
June will focus on the community's role in recovery and I thought you might
want to tune in.

1. LIVE WEBCAST: Exploring the Community's Role in Recovery (Recovery Month
2002) on Wednesday, June 5, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. EST

Please join Ivette Torres, Director of Communications and External Liaison
for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, as she hosts "Exploring the
Community's Role in Recovery" Webcast on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 3 p.m.
EST. This live event will explore a variety of delivery systems and
approaches to highlight what communities can do to support recovery from
substance abuse. The featured panel of guests include: Major General Arthur
T. Dean, Retired, Chairman and CEO of Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of
America (CADCA); Janice Ford Griffin, Deputy Director of Join Together;
Henry Lozano, Executive Director of Californians for Drug-Free Youth; and
Chaplin John Lundin, Chairman of the board of the American Foundation for
Addiction Research (AFAR). Each panelist will highlight the essential role
every community can play in supporting the addiction recovery process.

Webcast live, please visit:

* Please note, an archive version of the webcast will also be available from this page after the Webcast occurs.

2. Live Web chat: Calling Community-Based Voices to Action

Join us for a live Web chat with Janice Ford Griffin, Deputy Director of
Join Together, Wednesday, June 19, 2002 from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. EST.

This online discussion will explore what individuals, groups, organizations,
schools, the criminal justice system, and others can do to help those who
need substance abuse treatment.

To participate in the chat, log on to
