û Nova Scotia's premier has performed major surgery on its health department, excising health promotion from the day-to-day operation of the $2 billion portfolio and thus creating Canada's first Office of Health Promotion. "We're very bullish on health promotion. We have embraced the philosophy that there's more to treating health than treating illness," said Premier John Hamm, a former family physician. According to Liberal leader Danny Graham, however, what the government has embraced is his idea for raising awareness and supporting health promotion. "Until now," contends Graham "(the government) hasn't done one single thing to demonstrate that they understand how big the challenge around health promotion is."
