The Complexity of Teaching Health Promotion Made Easier: Inspiration meets
the Educator's Package and the Circle of Health

Monday, June 8, 2009
4:00pm - 4:45pm Atlantic time

This free 45 minute preview workshop is designed specifically for health
promotion educators, but anyone is welcome to join!
Click here to register: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/782826043

The online workshop will provide a brief introduction to the Circle of
Health and how it can help you in your work, whether it be in the community,
with families or individuals. The workshop will also apply the Circle using
a case study, give an example of how to do a community assessment using the
Circle of Health, and identify resources to support professors and students.

WHAT IS THE CIRCLE OF HEALTH?
The Circle of Health provides a complete picture of the components of health
promotion at a glance. Appealing to academics, community members, policy
makers and others who are working with individuals, families and communities
to promote health and well being, the Circle of Health is a framework and a
tool for education, planning and collaboration.

The Circle of Health has been used in many post-secondary programs,
including nursing, community health, psychology, social work and
pharmacology. In practice, it is used by health authorities, community
groups, governments, businesses and aboriginal groups as a framework and a
tool for collaboration, teaching, planning and evaluation.

WHAT IS THE EDUCATOR'S PACKAGE?
We are pleased to announce the creation of an Educator's Package for the
Circle of Health, which will be made available free of charge to all
professors who place a classroom-sized order of the Circle of Health. The
Circle of Health Educator's Package is packed full of resources, ideas and
information to help educators with their classes, including:

- Stories about how the Circle of Health is being used in classroom and
professional settings
- A case study on the Circle of Health
- Resources and templates
- Key questions and answers / FAQ
- Sample exam questions
- Information on the teaching tools that we offer
- Information on the Our Circle online community
- A map of where in the world the Circle is being used

"The Circle of Health is a combination of what health promotion has been
trying to put across to professionals for years. It is easy to use and very
practical in any setting".
(UK Review, 2004)

"The Circle of Health takes a holistic and comprehensive approach to health
promotion. It has a great visual depiction of health, the Ottawa Charter
strategies for health promotion, determinants of health, and values and
beliefs inherent in health promotion. With the current trend in health care
seeming to move from hospital based, curative care, to health promotion and
illness prevention, this framework has great potential for implementation at
a national level."
(Canadian Nursing and Health Promotion Educators Review, 2004)
