Bachelor in Health Studies at York University
Why choose York for Health Studies?

Ever wonder how doctors, hospitals and emergency departments communicate
with each other to coordinate your health care? How long should a person
wait in the emergency department? What role does privatization play in
health care? Discover the big picture behind how and why our health care
system must continually renew itself, and why we need leaders with the
vision and innovative edge the Bachelor of Health Studies offers.

? The School of Health Policy and Management equips students with an
in-depth understanding of the health sector by combining insights from
such fields as management, information technology, politics, history and
medicine, making it a leader in the way health is thought about.
? You can specialize in Health Management, Health Informatics or Health
Policy while gaining an integrated understanding of all three areas.
? We offer a foundation in theory and research methods combined with cases
drawn from real life.
? Experiential education moves learning beyond the classroom.
? Professors engaged in leading-edge research, position our graduates to
enter exciting careers in the health field or graduate work focused
on health research.

Health Informatics:Information technology informs decisions concerning the
management and delivery of health care. You?ll acquire skills in system
design, system integration, electronic patient records, data quality
analysis, and tele-health: the integration of computer, phone, Internet
and information technologies for patient counselling, treatment, education
and research. Our graduates are prepared for a career as a health
information specialist or systems designer.
A certificate in Health Informatics is also available.

Health Management: addresses leadership of the health system from an
organizational perspective. Courses in health management, leadership and
decision-making, measuring health system performance, health finance and
integrated health systems equip you for diverse careers in health care
organizations involving administration, planning and quality assurance.

Health Policy: The Politics of Health addresses current issues from the
perspectives of political science, law, economics, sociology and ethics.
You?ll gain an understanding of health care decision-making, including how
timing and political factors must align for innovative reform. Careers
include health policy analyst, health planner, health program or research
coordinator in government and non-governmental health organizations.

We champion the move from treating to preventing illness; from health care
silos to an integrated health system. Recognized for their research, our
educators bring the real world into the classroom through a curriculum
that mirrors what is happening in the health sector today to ensure our
students become tomorrow?s leaders.
