We are pleased to announce a new online course on the mental health needs and considerations for Syrian refugees.

This training is part of the CAMH Refugee Mental Health Project<https://www.porticonetwork.ca/web/rmhp/home> that provides web-based training, tools and resources addressing mental health promotion, treatment and support for Syrian refugees.

Next course session starts January 2017! Space is limited.
This course addresses the unique needs of refugee populations with specific focus on Syrian refugees. Course topics include:


•        key risk and protective factors for refugee mental health

•        recognizing and addressing mental health problems and disorders in refugees

•        unique needs of vulnerable subgroups (e.g., women, children, victims of torture)

•        key principles of trauma-informed service

•        refugee mental health promotion

•        working effectively with interpreters

•        preventing burnout and vicarious trauma.
An inter-professional panel of experts<https://www.porticonetwork.ca/web/rmhp/about/sme> is on hand to answer your practice questions in the course and CoP.

During and after the course, take part in the online Community of Practice (CoP) or the webinar series and utilize the online resource toolkit and e-newsletter to network, collaborate and keep updated on issues, resources and events related to refugee mental health.

This course is held under the auspices of Continuing Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity approved for:

•        The College of Family Physicians of Canada—up to 15.5 Mainpro+ credits (for 6 modules)

•        Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada—up to 15.5 Section 1 hours (for 6 modules).
