OWHN names new Provincial Coordinator

March 18, 2003

The Board of the Ontario Women's Health Network(http://www.owhn.on.ca) is
pleased to announce the appointment of Tekla Hendrickson as the new
Provincial Coordinator, beginning April 1, 2003.

Tekla succeeds our current Provincial Coordinator, Suzanne Schwenger, who is
leaving OWHN after two years to pursue new opportunities in health
promotion. We take this opportunity to again thank Suzanne for her
incredible contribution to OWHN and to wish her well in her new ventures.

Tekla brings to OWHN an extensive and varied background in women's health
issues, in Canada and abroad. She has a passion for women's health, combined
with an exceptional ability to organize, communicate, and work with diverse
populations.

Originally from British Columbia, Tekla graduated with a degree in Women's
Studies from Simon Fraser University. Over the past ten years, she has been
involved in many programs aimed at women and children, including two years
spent in Papua New Guinea, where she coordinated and developed resources for
the East Sepik Women and Children's Health Project. Tekla has also worked as
a Program Director at Voices for Children, where she led a number of key
education and communications initiatives on behalf of children and youth.

Most recently, Tekla coordinated several projects for Best Start: Ontario's
Maternal, Newborn and Early Child Development Resource Centre, a program of
the Ontario Prevention Clearinghouse. She is the lead staff person in the
development of strategic direction for Best Start's Early Years initiative.

In her new role as Provincial Coordinator, Tekla will lead the development
of the Ontario Women's Health Network as a bilingual clearinghouse for
women's health information and women's health services in Ontario. She will
coordinate discussion groups across the province on health issues that
matter to women. In addition, she will continue to work with the Board to
further the goals and objectives of OWHN.

Please join us in welcoming Tekla Hendrickson to the Ontario Women's Health
Network.

On behalf of the Ontario Women's Health Network Board of Directors,

Jan Silverman
Chair
