Studies have shown that there is an unequal distribution of health across our society and that much of it can be linked to economic and social determinants of health. These health inequities are largely systemic, unjust and avoidable.

This event will bring together representatives of organizations that are working on health equity issues and poverty reduction strategies and a broad spectrum of individual community members, service providers, policymakers, researchers and advocates.

Together we will build a shared understanding of health as a human right and learn how to better document and present facts with respect to the inequities and disparities that occur within our communities. We will share information about policies, programs, services and opportunities that will help us to move toward health equity for all in the Niagara Region and across Ontario. Strategies and initiatives will be presented that can help us develop, in collaboration with institutions, advocacy groups, governments, funders and the media, locally relevant action plans to address and redress structural or systemic inequality.

Morning Session:

A keynote presentation will be given by Madina Wasuge of the Hamilton's Centre for Civic Inclusion <http://www.hcci.ca/> .
