First Keynote Speakers Confirmed



[cid:image002.jpg@01CAAF11.A10080B0]Sir Mason Durie is from New Zealand and is a member of the Rangitane and Ngati Kauwhata (Maori) tribes. After completing a psychiatric residency at McGill University in 1970, he was appointed Director of Psychiatry at the Palmerston North Hospital and was made a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in 1979. He was an inaugural member of the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation and pioneered community mental health programmes in New Zealand, with a particular focus on indigenous communities.



[cid:image003.jpg@01CAAF11.A10080B0]Dr. Barbara Lopes Cardozo is one of the founding members of Doctors Without Borders - Holland, winner of the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Lopes Cardozo's missions with the organization include the Armenian (USSR) Earthquake, Armero (Colombia) Volcano disaster, Peru cholera epidemic, as well as aid to victims of political and military conflict. Currently, she is a psychiatric epidemiologist at the International Emergency and Refugee Health Branch (IERHB) of CDC, focusing on mental health and psychosocial issues in complex humanitarian emergencies.




[cid:image004.jpg@01CAAF11.A10080B0]Sir Michael Marmot has led a research group on health inequalities for the past 30 years. He is Principal Investigator of the Whitehall Studies of British civil servants, investigating explanations for the striking inverse social gradient in morbidity and mortality. He leads the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) and is engaged in several international research efforts on the social determinants of health. He chairs the Department of Health Scientific Reference Group on tackling health inequalities.



[cid:image005.jpg@01CAAF11.A10080B0]Dr. Shekhar Saxena is the Programme Manager in the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at World Health Organization, Geneva. He is a psychiatrist with nearly 25 years of experience in research and programme management in mental health service delivery and information systems, mostly in low and middle income countries. He was one of the writers of the World Health Report-2001 on mental health. He is responsible for the WHO's project Atlas.



[cid:image006.jpg@01CAAF11.A10080B0]Prof. Corey Keyes is a Professor of Sociology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of a MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Successful Midlife Development, a co-chair of the first Summit of Positive Psychology in 1999, and a member of the 2007 National Academies of Science Keck Future's Initiative on The Future of Human Healthspan: Demography, Evolution, Medicine and Bioengineering.
