Research Manager
*Initial Assignment:  Research*



*Position Description:*

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is seeking a well organized and
experienced Research Manager to manage the growing research portfolio of Dr
Kwame McKenzie, Medical Director, Access & Transitions and Underserved
Populations.



Reporting to Dr McKenzie the primary responsibility is providing management
of major research projects such as the Social Aetiology of Mental Illness
training program (SAMI).  The Research Manager will also be responsible for
the administration of other research projects: directly coordinating
research staff and research trainees including recruitment, performance
management and performance evaluation. The successful candidate will be
responsible for the Research Ethics Board REB tracking, grant budgets and
research accounts and will provide a key role in the grant submission
process and financial and procurement activities on behalf of this research
section. The role will include the development and tracking of key
deliverables to funders as well as scientific reports and papers.  Key to
this role will be the building of collaborative relationships with
principal investigators, research sections, Research Services and central
agency departments. The Research Manager will be the key interface between
scientists, research sections, Research Services and central agency
departments such as the Research Ethics Board, IMG, Finance, Human
Resources and Support Services.



The Research Manager will manage and run all aspects of the SAMI program
ensuring the production of key SAMI deliverables. SAMI is tasked with the
creating a new generation of experts in the social determinants of mental
health and addictions.  SAMI trains researchers from diverse fields
including medicine, health sciences, social work, and social sciences.
They undertake a didactic course followed by a research project where they
have an unrivalled opportunity to be mentored by world experts.  In
addition, web-based tools are used to develop forums and global networks of
mentors, trainees and alumni.



The successful incumbent will also provide a coordination role with
granting agencies in helping to develop grant budgets and to prepare
financial and accountability reports to the granting agency. Thus this
position will need to combine a high level of technical skills complemented
by superior collaborative interpersonal, communication and customer service
skills.  You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages

This position is located at 455 Spadina Ave.



*Qualifications:*

The successful candidate will possess a minimum Honours Baccalaureate
preferably in Health Sciences or a related field with a minimum of 3 years
of experience within a management capacity in research or mental health
research.  An equivalent combination of knowledge and experience will be
considered. Knowledge and experience of mental health and addictions
research would be a definite asset. Demonstrated project management
experience including budget management, scheduling and reporting is
required.  Certificate in project management is an asset. Familiarity with
American and Canadian Research funding agencies and their rules and
regulations is required.  Excellent interpersonal, communication
(verbal/written), reporting and presentation skills are essential, as are
strong organizational skills combined with a demonstrated ability to manage
and coordinate numerous grants and awards. Demonstrated ability to
cultivate internal and external relationships is required, as well as
networking and partnership building skills.* The successful incumbent will
have demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience. *You possess sound
judgment, negotiation skills, strategic planning skills, and advanced
facilitation and teamwork skills.  Problem solving, networking and
partnership building skills are also required.  You have excellent computer
skills in the areas of grant based accounting and advanced computer skills
in a Microsoft Office environment.  Candidates will possess the ability to
work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism
(French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
