Communicating for change: improving public and decision-maker awareness on health equity

Public awareness and support for the social determinants of health (SDH) can be a key driver for policy change to improve everyday living conditions and promote more equitable distribution of power and resources for health. Over the past few years there has been a concerted effort in Canada and elsewhere to develop effective communications tools and resources that will engage Canadians on the concepts of the SDH and health equity. There are a growing number of tools and resources being developed by a range of organizations which reflect the realities of the local context.
This webinar will explore:
· public perception of the social determinants of health in the Canadian context
· the relationship between public opinion and policy change and
· explore principles to improve communications on the social determinants of health.
The webinar will highlight principles to develop messages that consider the complexity and value-laden characteristics of the concepts.

Communiquer pour favoriser le changement : mieux conscientiser la population et les décideurs à l'équité en santé

La conscientisation et l'appui de la population par rapport aux déterminants sociaux de la santé peuvent se révéler des éléments essentiels si on veut provoquer un changement d'orientation qui permettrait d'améliorer les conditions de vie et de favoriser une répartition plus équitable du pouvoir et des ressources qui entrent en ligne de compte en santé. Au cours des dernières années, on a vu se manifester au Canada et ailleurs dans le monde un effort concerté pour élaborer des outils et des ressources de communication sur les notions des déterminants sociaux de la santé et de l'équité en santé et pour faire vibrer les cordes sensibles la population canadienne sur ces questions. De plus en plus d'organismes élaborent à cet effet des ressources et des outils adaptés à la réalité des contextes locaux.
Le webinaire traitera de ce qui suit :
· La perception de la population par rapport à la notion des déterminants sociaux de la santé dans le contexte canadien
· La relation entre l'opinion publique et le changement d'orientation
· Les principes à suivre pour améliorer la façon de communiquer sur les déterminants sociaux de la santé.
Le webinaire servira à mettre en lumière les principes à suivre pour élaborer des messages reflétant la nature complexe et délicate de ces deux notions.
