On Nov 19, 2013, Dr. Peter Menzies, Director, Northern Outreach Aboriginal Services at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, will present "Consideration of First Nations Suicide". This webinar will explore some of the contributing factors that have led to high rates of suicide in some First Nations communities, and will explore intervention strategies, with an emphasis on community engagement and psychotherapy. On Nov 26, 2013, Dr. Farah Shroff, University of British Columbia and Dr. Mani Asgharpour, will present "Yoga and Mental Health: Discussing the Evidence for Population Health Improvement". Yoga is cost-effective, non-invasive and has virtually no side-effects. For population and health promotion, illness prevention and treatment, yoga holds great promise. Review articles conclude that yoga appears to be beneficial for particular mental illnesses. On Dec 03, 2013, Dr. Margaret Robinson, post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health will present "High/Functioning: Bisexual Women & Cannabis Use". Bisexual women show high rates of illicit cannabis use relative to other women, yet little is known about why this is the case. This presentation will draw on Dr. Robinson's analysis of data from the Risk & Resilience Study of Bisexual Mental Health as well as findings from her qualitative interviews with bisexual women in Toronto. On Dec 10, 2013, Dr. Alfie Breland-Noble, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Centre will present "Models of Community Participation: The Science of Community Engagement". The webinar is designed to allow participants to: a) Gain knowledge about theories of community engagement in clinical research and b) Observe applications of community engagement practices in clinical research.
