Yes, in the 1996 book, Health and Social Organization:
Towards a Health Policy for the 21st Century, ed. by
D. Blane, Eric Brunner & R. Wilkinson, Al Tarlov wrote
a chapter called "Social Determinants of Health: the
Sociobiological Translation." AT refers to the 1947 WHO
definition of health as a state of physical & social wellbeing,
not merely the absence of disease of infirmity. AT also refers
to the 1984 Marmot study "Inequalities in death...in Lancet.
Also, Why are some people healthy and Others not: The Determinants
of Health of Populations" ed by R. Evans et al, also refers to
determinants of health and social inequalities in health. I think
the 1995 book, Society & Health, ed by B. Amick et al, in the intro
on p. 3 by Amick, Sol Levine, Al Tarlov, and Diana Chapman Walsh,
also refers to the "study of the social determinants of health.
