Subject: Master of International Public Health (MIPH) at UNSW (Sydney)
from 2010

A Master of International Public Health (MIPH) at the University of NSW
(UNSW) in Sydney will commence from 2010

The MIPH, MPH with international electives, and joint degrees MIPH/MPH,
MIPH/MHM (master of Health Management), and MIPH with research components
(such as MPhilPH) will be offered from 2010 by the School of Public Health
and Community Medicine (SPHCM), Faculty of Medicine, UNSW, which has
provided post-graduate coursework degrees and qualifications in
International Health for over 25 years. Diploma (GradDip) and Certificate
(GradCert) are also available. These degrees provide the basic
professional training for graduates to work internationally in health
departments, with non-government organizations, and with international and
bi-lateral aid agencies. Masters programs can be completed in less than
one year (2 Semesters) and a total of 8 courses, with commencement in
March or July.

For the MIPH, the core courses are: International Health (PHCM9605);
Health Promotion and Social Perspectives of Health (PHCM9012); and
Epidemiology and Statistics for Public health (PHCM9498). International
Public Health elective courses are: Health Development and Human Rights
(PHCM9663); Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (PHCM9606); The Global
HIV Epidemic (PHCM9621); Environmental Health (PHCM9612); Communicable
Disease in Humanitarian Emergencies and Disasters (PHCM9783) - with WHO;
Tropical Disease Control (PHCM9784); Current Challenges in Infectious
Disease (PHCM9782); Policy Studies (PHCM9381); Comparative Health Care
Systems (PHCM9471); Program Design and Evaluation (PHCM9108); Community
Development (PHCM9010). Up to 2 electives in other areas are available.
All teaching faculty and invited speakers have direct and extensive
experience in working in the international and global context.

Local students (Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents, NZ Citizens)
are mostly eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place, and fee payment
may be deferred and paid through income tax (Australian Citizens only).
The international student fee is competitive.
