The Canadian Health Network, Health Canada's premier health information web
site located at http://www.canadian-health-network.ca has chosen 2 of
Canada's leading authorities on health promotion - the Ontario Prevention
Clearinghouse (OPC) - Centre ontarien d'information en prevention in
partnership with the Centre for Health Promotion (CHP) at the University of
Toronto - to be its new Health Promotion Affiliate.
The http://www.canadian-health-network web site has been in operation since
1999, and has strived to achieve credibility as "the preferred choice in
Canada for helpful e-health information you can trust". With a mandate to
support Canadians in making informed choices about their health, the
Canadian Health Network (CHN) provides access to multiple sources of
practical and credible e-health information supported by over 20 affiliates
across the country.
"I'm so pleased that our expertise in health and health promotion has been
acknowledged in this way," says Suzanne Jackson, Director of CHP. "Being
the Health Promotion Affiliate for CHN will build on our existing networks
and enable us to reach across the country and provide timely, reliable and
accurate health promotion information to health consumers, and to the
broader range of organizations, health care professionals and individuals
working in the health field".
To ensure the Health Promotion Affiliate achieves a pan-Canadian reach and
level of participation, the Ontario Prevention Clearinghouse will recruit
project management staff to work with a group of 4 to 6 health-promoting
organizations that can provide regional animators and communicate regional
issues and concerns.
"This highly successful strategy will build strong networks that are
pan-Canadian, inclusive and accessible", says Connie Clement, Executive
Director at OPC.
The project design includes using population health approaches to provide
electronic and web-accessible information and resources, build health
promotion networks, and consult with varied audiences in French and English
to encourage their health promotion contributions to the CHN website. OPC is
the administrator of the project.
