On *April 16, 2013*, Dr. Paula Godoy-Paiz, Global Health Program
Coordinator within the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the
University of Toronto will present *“Intimate Partner Violence and Mental
Health among Spanish-Speaking Latin American Women in Toronto”*. Violence
against women is a global phenomenon, the most common form of violence
occurs at the hands of someone they know (intimate partner violence). Dr.
Godoy-Paiz will discuss the findings of a qualitative study of Intimate
Partner Violence and Mental Health among Spanish-Speaking Latin American

On *April 30, 2013*, Dr. Holly Longstaff partner at Engage Associates
Consulting Group will present “*Using an ethical lens to consider mental
health and addiction case studies*”. This seminar will introduce
participants to research ethics and explain why this field of study matters
to those conducting mental health and addiction research. Core principles
and other resources will also be presented to help participants work

On *May 7, 2013*, Dr. Nancy Poole, Director of Research and Knowledge
Translation, British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health will
present “*Integrating Trauma-informed Approaches into Mental Health and
Substance Use Systems*”. This seminar will begin with an introduction to
principles of trauma-informed practice as they are being applied at the
individual, organizational and systemic levels across Canada. It will
provide case examples of Canadian organizations that are integrating
trauma-informed approaches into their work. Examples will draw upon work
being conducted by organizations that work with women, First Nations and
Inuit populations, and individuals who are experiencing homelessness. [For

On *May 21, 2013*, Dr. Régine Uwibereyeho King, Assistant Professor in the
Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba will present “*Perceptions
of Mental Health among Rwandan Refugees in Toronto*”. Refugees who have
been exposed to different forms of organized violence are at greater risk
of developing mental health problems than the general population after
resettlement in high income countries. This webinar will discuss the
findings from qualitative interviews with service providers and Rwandan
refugees. The findings may be useful for service programming and policies
for other refugees that resettle in Canada after surviving different forms

On *June 11, 2013*, Dr. Stephen Lewis, Associate Professor in the
Department of Psychology, University of Guelph will present “*Non-suicidal
self-injury and the Internet: Impact, implications, and opportunities*”.
This webinar will: a) present recent research examining NSSI and online
activity in youth and emerging adults, b) discuss relevant clinical
implications and guidelines, and c) highlight initiatives involving the

On *June 18, 2013*, Dr. Saul Lev-Ran, Director of Addiction Medicine
Services in the Sheba Medical Center in Israel will present “*Gender
differences in mental health-related correlates of cannabis use*”. Cannabis
is the most widely used illicit substance worldwide. In this webinar, Dr.
Lev-Ran will present a series of epidemiological studies focusing on gender
differences in patterns in cannabis consumption, rates of transition from
cannabis use to cannabis use disorders and self-reported mental
health-related quality of life among cannabis users. Various biological and
environmental factors affecting these differences, as well as possible
