Introducing Wellesley Central’s latest community-based research workshop....

CBR 301 Delivering on the Promise: Building Community
and Affecting Policy through Community-Based Research

Tired of seeing your research reports sitting on a shelf? A fundamental principle of community-based research is ensuring that action outcomes emerge as a result of research. The ‘gold standard’ outcome for CBR projects is to affect public policy.

So, how do I go from research to affecting public policy.....

Participants Will Learn:
• how CBR research can be used for social change
• how CBR can be articulated to maximize impact on policy makers
• a framework for maximizing action outcomes from CBR
• skills for using research as an advocacy tool

Who Should Attend:
• funders of community-based research
• community members, researchers, practitioners and others involved in community-based research
• those involved in capacity-building and community development
• policy makers

Facilitator - David Goyette (and special guests)

• David Goyette is a communications consultant with an extensive background in public affairs and politics.
• A former community planner with the City of Toronto, he has served as an Executive Assistant to the Mayor of Toronto, as an advisor to Ontario Premiers David Peterson and Bob Rae, and most recently as a speechwriter to Premier Dalton McGuinty. David has provided communication consulting to 71 Canadian politicians, 17 Deputy Ministers, 32 different offices at Queen’s Park, 31 not-for–profit social service and health care organizations, and more than 300 corporate clients, including senior management at all the major Canadian banks.
• David is a former Professor of Urban Studies at Ryerson, and has served as a features contributor to the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail and the National Post. He has also served as a volunteer Director of a number of community-based organizations and is currently a Governor of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. He is the author of a variety of materials for the Wellesley Central Health Corporation, as well as a consultant to the Ontario Association of Community Care Access Centres.
