Learn about the latest developments in family and consumer sciences, and
how they can affect your curriculum planning, by taking this workforce
education and development course.  The course will provide family and
consumer sciences teachers in middle schools, high schools, or vocational
technical schools with the opportunity to:

 discuss “hot topics” in family and consumer sciences
 design lessons using the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences
 develop scenarios to use in introducing a practical reasoning approach
 review current theories on child development
 analyze practices of optimal early-childhood care and development environments
 develop strategies for promoting literacy in children
 interpret current nutrition information provided by government agencies
 identify nutrition-related health problems and consider processes used to determine diet modifications
 identify responsibilities associated with managing personal finances
 explain and evaluate consumer rights and responsibilities in the resolution of consumer problems through practical reasoning
