Horizons Spring Into Action Challenge 2013!

Dear friends and colleagues,

Spring has arrived and with it, the Horizons annual Spring Into Action Challenge!

Spring Into Action is an annual challenge that Horizons Community Development Associates Inc. issues to our colleagues, friends and families. This year it takes place from April 15 to May 26, 2013. The purpose of the campaign is for all of us to get physically active, and fit for summer!

Challenge Details:

· Our challenge runs for six weeks, beginning Monday April 15 and ending Sunday May 26, 2013.

· The goal is for members of each team to accumulate at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, for five days each week.

· 30 minutes of activity can be accumulated throughout a 24- hour period in a minimum of 10-minute blocks of time.

· There is an opportunity for every team and individual to win a weekly prize draw as long as long as the individuals meet their 30 minutes per day for five days a week. For team prizes, all members on the team must meet this goal as well.

· The individual winner’s grand prize is $100 to be used toward anything the winner would like related to physical activity (e.g., new running shoes, swim passes, family outings to the gym). All the participants who achieved the goal of 30 minutes a day for five days each week, for all six weeks of the challenge will be entered into a grand prize draw at the end of the challenge!

· As a team prize, Horizons will make a $150 donation (in the winning team’s name) to a local sport/recreation fund for kids, chosen by the winning team. All team members must meet the 30 minutes a day for five days each week, for all six weeks of the challenge to be eligible for the team grand prize.

Activity ideas can range from light to vigorous, such as gardening to mountain biking – the possibilities are endless!

The first step to participating in the Spring Into Action Challenge is to get your team together. You may want to include co-workers, friends, and family members. Decide on a team name and identify a team captain who will register your team and team members for the challenge, and who will collect and submit your team’s information each week.

Please note: Your team can have up to 15 members (and as few as two) – some teams have been known to include four-legged friends. If you have more than 15 people interested, you may want to consider dividing into two teams and having a little competition between you. You may also want to consider that with smaller teams it is easier to keep each other motivated and meet the goal each week, increasing your chances of winning prizes. As well, it is easier for the team captain to collect the team data for submission each Monday.
