Purpose

	To heighten awareness about Mental Health Promotion leading up
to the International Conference 'Expanding our Horizons: Moving Mental
Health and Wellness Promotion into the Mainstream

Audience(s)

	Health intermediaries working in areas such as public, community
or acute care health settings, and for those working in adult or
perinatal health, including those working with chronic disease and
chronic disease prevention. Limit of 25 participants.

		Mental Health Promotion - Concepts and Definitions
		Presenter: Paola Ardiles, Project Manager, Research and
Knowledge Exchange, BC Mental Health & Addiction Services

		*         Introduction to what mental health promotion
is and why it is everyone's business. 

		*         How mental health promotion relates to health
promotion. 

		*         International policies and innovative
practices 

		*         Mental health promotion in Canada,
specifically what is happening in BC .

		 

		Part 2- January 14, 2009 from 12-1:15 EST
		Mental Health, Mental Illness and Chronic Disease
Prevention & Management in Ontario 
		Presenter: Barbara Neuwelt, Policy Analyst, CMHA Ontario

		*         The fit between mental health promotion,
mental illness and chronic disease prevention and management 

		*         Links between mental and physical health 

		*         Role of mental health promotion for people
with serious mental illnesses and for people with chronic physical
conditions.

		 

		Part 3- February 12, 2009 from 12-1:15pm EST
		Mental Health Promotion in Practice - Examples from
Maternal and Child Health
		Presenter: Hiltrud Dawson, Health Promotion Consultant,
Health Nexus

		*         How to incorporate mental health promotion
strategies into our work. 

		*         Examples from the Best Start Resource Centre
on maternal and child health 

		*         Discussion and sharing of examples among
participants.
