On Oct 29, 2013, Dr. Jim Thompson, Medical Advisor in the Research Directorate at Veteran's Affairs Canada, will present "Post-Service Determinants of Mental Health in Military Veterans". This webinar will explore epidemiologic findings from population studies of mental health in military Veterans, with a focus on determinants of mental health in life after service. This work is allowing researchers to start developing a clearer picture of the prevalence of Veterans' mental health problems and factors associated with mental health in life after service. On Nov 12, 2013, Dr. Robert Williams, Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge, will present "Prevention of Problem Gambling: A Comprehensive Review of the Evidence and Identified Best Practices". This presentation provides a review of the nature and effectiveness of all major educational and policy initiatives that are being used around the world to prevent problem gambling. The best practices in the prevention of problem gambling derived from a comprehensive study will be presented to attendees. On Nov 19, 2013, Dr. Peter Menzies, Director, Northern Outreach Aboriginal Services at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, will present "Consideration of First Nations Suicide". This webinar will explore some of the contributing factors that have led to high rates of suicide in some First Nations communities, and will explore intervention strategies, with an emphasis on community engagement and psychotherapy.
