A few years ago, we did a resource for the family violence folks at Health
Canada, which is available on the National Clearinghouse on Family Violence
web site http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hppb/familyviolence/femabus_e.html

The resource is called A Handbook for Health and Social Service
Professionals Responding to Abuse During Pregnancy and it addresses
assessment and follow up (but I don't recall finding an instrument that had
been specifically designed for pregnant women who have been abused - we had
to draw on other resources).

As for studies, the research process for this resource was a few years ago
so there may be more up-to-date work available now. Back then, Dr. Donna
Stewart (1994) had found that 95% of women who were abused in the first
trimester of their pregnancies were also abused in the three-month period
after delivery. For these women, the abuse also increased after the baby
