Health promoters wanting help communicating with clarity may find a new
website from Toronto's Clear Language and Design (an offshoot of East End
Literacy) helpful. It contains some great illustrations of using plain
language to rescue inaccessible writing. Check out the 'Reading
Effectiveness' section for a no-nonsense SMOG formula (Simple Measure Of
Gobbledegook). For those who've not yet discovered the amazing National
Adult Literacy Database, follow the link from the 'Resources' section.
The Clear Language site was officially launched today in honour of Literacy
Day.
