Request for Proposals
Women and Mental Health Demonstration Projects
The Women and Mental Health Demonstration Projects initiative will assist the
implementation of six innovative projects which will expand our knowledge of how
to improve mental health outcomes for women diagnosed with a serious mental
illness. These projects will support groups working with women in their communities
attempting to address gaps in current service systems through collaborative
partnerships
and innovative program design.
Once selected projects are awarded funding, the BC Centre of Excellence for Women's
Health will develop and carry out evaluation plans for each demonstration project.
These
evaluations will assist in understanding which approaches work best to support women
with serious and persistent mental health problems. All proposals will be reviewed by
a
selection committee which will include representation from consumer/survivors,
the BC Ministry of Health, the BC Centre of Excellence for Women's Health, and
Regional Health Authorities.
Projects are being solicited in the following five areas:
Improving mental health outcomes:
-for women diagnosed with serious mental illness who have violence & trauma histories
-for immigrant and refugee women, women of colour, and Aboriginal women diagnosed
with serious mental illness
-for women diagnosed with serious mental illness in the forensic psychiatry/prison
system
-for women diagnosed with serious mental illness who are mothers and;
-by assessing the role of peer support for women diagnosed with serious mental
illness

Health and
is funded by the BC Ministry of Health.
