BUILDING CONNECTIONS - TORONTO REGIONAL CONFERENCE 

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 9 AM TO 4 PM. 

 

This FREE one-day conference, hosted by the Ontario Self-Help Network
(OSHNET), will be held in Toronto on Friday, November 24. This year's theme
is Building Connections. The six workshops offered will be of interest to
both self-helpers and professionals working with peer support and mutual
aid. Topics include: Introductory and Advanced Facilitation Skills;
Integrating Strategies: Peer Support & Peer Education; Role-playing
Challenging Situations in Groups; Building Community Partnerships and
Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers.  

 

The conference is funded by the Ministry of Health Promotion and takes place
at the Self-Help Resource Centre in Toronto, 40 Orchard View Blvd. one block
north of Yonge & Eglinton.  Enrollment is FREE and limited to 80 people, so

FALL WORKSHOP SERIES 

 

The Self-Help Resource Centre (SHRC) is offering a series of workshops
across 2006-2007. Workshops take place at the SHRC in Toronto at 40 Orchard
View Blvd. one block north of Yonge & Eglinton. Enrollment is limited to 20
people, so please register early to avoid disappointment.  The $15
registration fee includes materials and refreshments. To register download

GROUPS IN TRANSITION: moving from professional leadership to mutual support.
Tuesday, October 24, 1 to 4 pm. This participatory workshop will assist
professionals to learn more about self-help/peer support models, to identify
key steps in building a successful transition team and plan, and to consider
their new role as a professional "on tap, not on top"  PLEASE NOTE: This
workshop is now full, but you can download an article on transitioning
leadership from www.selfhelp.on.ca/resource/search.html   We can also bring
our workshops to your group. There is a catalogue of topics on our website. 

 

 

HUMOUR AND CREATIVITY through Improvisation, Tuesday, November 14, 1 to 4
pm.  This fun workshop will introduce participants to the basic principles
of improvisation. The concepts can be applied in the workplace to encourage
humour and creative problem solving, as well as enhancing communications and
teamwork. Participants will learn-by-doing with an emphasis on improv games
and some unique brainstorming exercises. 

 

Neil Muscott has taught improvisation for over 20 years, giving workshops to
several hundred organizations in business, government and healthcare all
across Canada. Second City trained, his workshop is a hands-on education on
the value of humour that will leave you laughing and feeling good about
life. The Globe and Mail called Neil "the Steve Martin of stress managers".
