WEB EVENTS DESCRIPTIONS

** Employers and Employees in Unison: Supporting Recovery Through the
Workplace

One of the biggest hurdles for people with addictions is overcoming the
shame surrounding their disorder and the uncertainty about how much they can
disclose to employers and co-workers. Recovering employees are often faced
with balancing the need for honesty with the fear that the truth could
hinder their careers or job opportunities. With this in mind, how can
employers support their recovering employees?

Both the Webcast and Web chat will explore a continuum of support employers
need to provide to retain valued employees and improve the bottom line.
Hosted by Dennis Wholey of the PBS show This Is America With Dennis Wholey
and author of The Courage to Change, the Webcast will feature a panel of
experts: Elena Carr, National Coordinator, Working Partners, Alcohol- and
Drug-Free Workplace, U.S. Department of Labor (who will also host the Web
chat); Steve Towle, D.C. Liaison, National Association on Alcohol, Drugs,
and Disability; Cathi Coridan, Director of Development, ETP, Inc.; and James
O'Hair, Internal Programs Director, Employee Assistance Professionals
Association, Inc.

** Speaking Out About Healthcare and Recovery

Healthcare professionals can play a vital role in identifying substance
abuse problems and helping patients get the addiction treatment they need.
Both the Webcast and Web chat will examine efforts to improve training for
healthcare professionals in the identification of substance addiction.

Hosted by Dennis Wholey of the PBS show This Is America With Dennis Wholey
and author of The Courage to Change, the Webcast will highlight exemplary
efforts, model programs, and effective strategies that better prepare
healthcare professionals to address the needs of addicted and recovering
individuals. The panel will feature: Dr. Louis E. Baxter, Sr., Medical
Society of New Jersey; Dr. Hoover Adger, Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine; Dr. H. Westley Clark, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment; and
