As you know, talking to kids about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse is
a challenge for any parent, friend, or caring adult. Questions and concerns
are sure to abound. In addition, if you are Hispanic/Latino, finding
materials that speak to you can also be challenging. In an effort to
alleviate the difficulties surrounding these conversations, the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for
Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) is excited to introduce its first
bilingual parenting site-Hablemos en Confianza at
http://www.soyunica.gov/adults.

Hablemos en Confianza is a culturally appropriate bilingual public health
Web site designed to encourage and strengthen dialogue between
Hispanic/Latino parents and children. This new site offers advice for
Hispanic/Latino parents on listening and talking with children to improve
communication, to discover parenting style, and to learn about alcohol,
tobacco, and illicit drugs.

One of the many useful features of the site includes a Toolkit for
Hispanic/Latino Community Groups to help these agencies groups organize
their communities around preventing alcohol and drug use, and other problems
facing youth today. This guidebook, written in English and Spanish, provides
facts about alcohol/drug use among Hispanic/Latino youth, outlines basic
steps in community organizing, and identifies risk and protective factors
related to substance abuse. You can view the Toolkit today at
http://www.soyunica.gov/adults/rallies/toolkit.aspx and follow the link to
"order products" to have hardcopy sent in the mail.

We welcome your assistance in telling others about this unique resource.
Please feel free to forward this message on or add a link to your site.

Thank you,
Farra Trompeter, Web Marketer
