Dear Editor:
I was frankly surprised to read that Globe and Mail reporter Andre
Picard is Canada's foremost public health journalist according to editor
Greenspon (May 3, 2003). Is this the same Andre Picard that has not
written a single article in five years on the exploding conceptual and
research literature concerned with the "social determinants" of health?
Personally, I agree with Greenspon to this extent: If journalist Picard
was supported in reporting these issues -- many of which have a strong
ideological and political component obviously not reflective of current
Globe and Mail ideology -- then he could become Canada's foremost public
health journalist.
