The Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities will be held
this year on August 22-25, 2004 at the University of Prince Edward Island.
<http://www.upei.ca/SI/>

A commitment and energy for intersectoral capacity building provides the
momentum for a new chapter in the development of a Health Promotion Summer
Institute for Atlantic Canada.

This year's theme "Meeting of the Minds: Creating a Healthier Atlantic
Canada", will make the links between health promotion, crime prevention and
social development, and bring together diverse sectors to create a shared
agenda for healthy and safe communities in Atlantic Canada.
The Institute is based on the belief that "societal issues have a better
chance of being addressed if we recognize the intimate interrelationships
and connections that exist between social, health,
and economic policy, and take steps to develop the skills and knowledge to
take action."
(Summer Institute Proposal, 2004)
