MEASURE Evaluation, a USAID-funded project, supports improvements in
monitoring and evaluation population, health and nutrition worldwide. Please
find announcements of upcoming workshops and new publications below.

MEASURE Evaluation announces its first regional workshop on Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), titled, "GIS Applications in Public Health,” for
English speaking professionals. The workshop is sponsored by the Public
Health Foundation of India (PHFI), New Delhi, India in collaboration with
MEASURE Evaluation.

The course includes modules on M&E frameworks, data systems and indicators,
surveys used in PHN programs, evaluation designs, building performance
monitoring and evaluation plans, utilization and feedback of M&E results,
data demand and use, GIS, gender and the M&E of health programs.

Applications must be submitted to PHFI by August 19, 2011.

*M&E of Malaria Programs Workshop, Burkina Faso, September 2011*
MEASURE Evaluation, in partnership with the Centre de Recherche en Santé de
Nouna (CRSN), the Centre de Recherche Internationale pour la Santé (CRIS)
and the Unité de Formation et de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé (UFR/SDS)
at the University of Ouagadougou, will hold a workshop on monitoring and
evaluation of malaria programs.

This workshop aims to build capacity in francophone Africa in the M&E of
malaria programs for central, regional and district personnel responsible
for the collection, analysis and use of data.

*M&E of Population, Health and Nutrition Programs, India, November 2011*
MEASURE Evaluation collaborates with the Public Health Foundation of India
(PHFI), New Delhi, India to offer a training course in monitoring and
evaluation of population health and nutrition (PHN) programs.

The workshop is an intensive hands-on training in the fundamentals of
monitoring and evaluation. Course modules cover basic concepts and tools
used in the development of plans for performance monitoring and impact
evaluation.

* Influence of Gender Measures on Maternal and Child Health in
Africa<http://goo.gl/uv52m>

This report explores the associations between gender measures and several
health outcomes which include (1) low BMI, an indicator of overall maternal
health; (2) birth in a facility, an indicator of the utilization of maternal
health services and a proxy measure for maternal mortality; (3) having a
child who is fully immunized, an indicator of the utilization of a
preventive child health service; and (4) treatment seeking for a child with
an acute respiratory infection (ARI), an indicator of the utilization of a
curative child health service.

*Nigeria Reproductive Health, Child Health, and Education End-of-Project
Household Survey, 2009 <http://goo.gl/Z9JFk>*
This report presents findings from the 2009 Nigeria end-of-project household
survey. The survey serves as the endline for the Community Participation for
Action in the Social Sector Project (COMPASS). The survey was implemented in
local government areas (LGAs) in the states of Bauchi, Federal Capital
Territory (FCT), Kano, Lagos, and Nasarawa where COMPASS was implemented.
