The Hartford house's lecture/interview series -- "The Trouble Begins at 5:30" -- resumes Wednesday afternoon -- at 4:30 EDT, no less, just to show that "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." The "Trouble" was replaced over the spring and summer by "Trouble at Home," the virtual interview show, and interestingly, this will be just as virtual but will be held in the auditorium of the museum's Visitor Center. There 18 pre-registrants will constitute the first on-site audience here for quite a while!
They, and you virtually if you like, will get to meet Beth Burgess, the Director of Collections and Research at our neighboring Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, and hear a discussion of "The Nook Farm of the Clemenses and Stowes," that extraordinary context in which the two authors lived. They'll be bringing the story up to today, when the two institutions share not only a lawn but also a shared passion for the history of this literary community, and differing but complementary ways of exploring it. I have known Beth for many years and we have frequently swapped research questions. She has a deep knowledge of the subject. I've benefited from her insights on historical and curatorial matters many times.
She'll be talking with Jodi DeBruyne, her Mark Twain House counterpart, who since her arrival here in February as Director of Collections has shown herself to be a dynamo in the curatorial realm -- and a terrific interviewer, as those of you who saw her with Susan Harris a few weeks back will confirm.

P.S. I'm told that a rematch of the recent "Trouble at Home" with Joe Lemak and Matt Seybold is being cooked up -- the program was the victim of actual Trouble, technical in nature. Watch this space, or better still, the museum's website and social media.
