Background (somewhat academic, I'm afraid)

Dennis Raphael is involved in a number of quality of life
projects including work with seniors, adolescents, persons
with disabilities, and communities. He welcomes any agency
or community inquiries related to finding out about
potential applications of this work.

He received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of
Toronto (1975), having previously earned a B.Sc. in
Psychology at the City University of New York, Brooklyn
College (1972) and a M.Sc. in Psychology at the State
University of New York, College at Cortland (1974).

He is an Associate Professor of Behavioural Science and
Associate Director of the Masters of Health Science Program
in Health Promotion at the University of Toronto: Department
of Behavioural Science, University of Toronto, McMurrich
Building, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 1A8.  In this capcity he
serves as practicum coordinator.

Dr. Raphael's areas of expertise are in research methodology
and design, quality of life research, and design and
evaluation of health promotion activities. As Co-Director of
the Centre for Health Promotion, University of Toronto's
Quality of Life Research Unit, he is carrying out quality of
life research with seniors, adolescents, and persons with
developmental disabilities.

Dr. Raphael's training in psychology and educational theory
has been applied in the areas of adolescent personality
development, evaluation of educational and service programs,
and most recently in quality of life and health promotion
research.

He recently contributed three chapters to 'Quality of Life
in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation (Sage Publications,
1996) and one on assessment for "Ring Some Alarm Bells:
reactions to the Royal Commission on Learning" (Althouse
Press, 1996).
