Greetings,
Just a note to alert you that the delightful and prodigious scholar Bruce Michelson, whose work encompasses Twain and Richard Wilbur and many more things (he is also the author of lively, thoughtful short plays on Twainian topics) will be speaking this week (virtually) in the Hartford house's "The Trouble Begins" series. The subject is "Printing, Pictures, and the Mark Twain Legend," which as we know via Bruce's deeply helpful Printer's Devil: Mark Twain and the American Publishing Revolution will be a treat of a subject. "This story of Mark Twain, starting from his boyhood in Hannibal print-shops and rolling through the picture-packed travel books, the always-illustrated novels, the lecture tours, Kaolatype, the Charles Webster Company, and decades of life in front of the cameras, is the first of many American fables of glory and heartache in a new visual age," reads part of the house's blurb.
Free, Wednesday, April 6, at 7:00 p.m. EDT. You can register here: https://ci.ovationtix.com/35359/performance/11018345?performanceId=11018345.
Cheers,
Steve
