On *October 9, 2012*, Dr. Robert Whitley, Assistant Professor, Division of
Social and Transcultural Psychiatry, McGill University, will present *“News
Media Coverage of Mental Illness”*. Canadian news media, the coverage of
mental illness, the damaging impact on people with mental illness and how

On *October 16, 2012*, Dr. Terry Krupa, Professor in the School of
Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen’s University will present*“Advancing social
business as a means to creating employment options with mental illness”.* This
webinar is the first in a series of webinars in collaboration with CAMH's
Community Support and Research Unit. Social businesses have dual social and
revenue-generation goals, creating employment opportunities for people with
mental illnesses while aiming for financial sustainability. Evaluation of
the critical features of social businesses, the challenges of growth,

On *October 30, 2012* , Dr. Ingrid Waldron, Assistant Professor in the
School of Nursing at Dalhousie University will present, *"The Impact of
Inequality on Mental Health: A Profile of Aboriginal and African Nova
Scotians in the North End.”* This webinar is based on findings from the
project “Challenges & opportunities: Identifying meaningful occupations in
low-income, visible minority communities in the North End.” Completed in
2010, this study examined some of the mental health issues facing

On *November 13, 2012* , Dr. Jorge Ginieniewicz, SAMI CIHR fellow CAMH,
will present *“The Mental health of Latin Americans in Canada: State of
knowledge and possible avenues for future research.”* This presentation
consists of three main components. In the first part, and based on a
comprehensive literature review, the presentation describes what is known
about the mental health of Latin Americans in Canada. In the second part,
it explores possible areas for future research. In the third part, this
presentation addresses a feasibility study on acculturative stress,
depressive symptoms and social resources conducted in the Latin American

On  *November 20, 2012*  Dr. Bonnie Kirsh, Associate Professor in the
Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, will
present *“Supported
Employment: Addressing Some Unanswered Questions and Recommendations for
Future.” *This webinar takes a look at where Supported Employment has taken
us, where it has not, and where we need to go from here. Based on a content
analysis of the literature on Supported Employment, this webinar also
examines best practices within the SE model, which were gleaned from
published research, interviews with consumers of SE services and a survey
conducted with SE service providers in Canada. Recommendations for service
providers, policymakers, and researchers are provided. [For more details
