Racism Really Hurts: A Critical Race and Social Determinants Approach to Chronic Disease Prevention
September 28, 2007
Time: 9am - 2:30pm incl. lunch
Location: Wellesley Community Centre
495 Sherbourne Street
Room A
Toronto.
This interactive forum will look at strategies to influence the prevention and management of race-related health differentials in the experience of chronic diseases; reflecting on lived experiences, as well as current policy, practice and research.
In small group deliberations, we will explore ways that government, institutions and members of the community can effectively advance an anti-racist, anti-oppression agenda that actively addresses determinants of health realities of Aboriginal and Racialised communities, in areas like prevention, access to care, clinical service delivery, community based participatory action research and healthy public policy.
Featuring: Selwyn Pieters (Civil Rights Lawyer); Professor June Yee (Ryerson University); Dr. Michael Rachlis (Health Policy analyst)
