Barbara Neilson is an academic and clinical specialist, as well as the
educational coordinator in the social work department at the Hospital
for Sick Children. She has worked as a social worker at HSC for 17
years. Her clinical work has been with the pediatric urology
population. She works with patients with rare congenital conditions as
well as patients with ambiguous genitalia and gender re-assignment. Her
18 years of work outside the hospital in adoption informs her work
around identity, secrecy, and ‘telling.’
