The Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children,
Youth, and Families is recruiting for an academic and administrative
position at the level of Assistant Director/Research Manager (ADRM).
The ADRM will be accountable to the Director and be part of the CUP
Leadership Team, assisting in the following three areas: Lifelong
Learning and Knowledge Mobilization, Community-Based Research, and
Administration and Project Management.
A Masters degree is required in a related discipline; Ph.D.
preferred. This is a full-time trust position for a one-year term,

Assistant Director / Research Manager
Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth,
and Families
The Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children,
Youth, and Families (CUP) is seeking applicants for the position of
Assistant Director / Research Manager. CUP was formed to promote
reciprocal, sustained, and mutually beneficial interactions among
researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and families in research,
education, and knowledge sharing. We work toward closing the
research-practice gap by focusing on three critical areas: research,
knowledge mobilization, and lifelong learning. CUP’s core staff
members engage in consulting, matchmaking and brokering, and
developing and leading projects. CUP is now in its sixth year and has
had significant early successes in projects concerning low-income
families, vulnerable youth and employability, school readiness,
community mapping, and in-school mentoring. CUP has attracted
funding for its various projects totaling over $5.2 million from
university, local, provincial, and federal sources.
The Assistant Director / Research Manager (ADRM) is a full-time
Academic Trust appointment. The ADRM will be accountable to the
Director and be part of the CUP Leadership Team. The ADRM will
assist in the following three areas: Lifelong Learning and Knowledge
Mobilization, Community-Based Research, and Administration and
Project Management.
Lifelong Learning and Knowledge MobilizationThe ADRM’s main
responsibilities are the following: (a) developing liaisons among
potential collaborators in the community and the University; (b)
maintaining effective, multilevel communication with individuals and
units across campus and in the community, including researchers,
faculty members, administrators, members of community and parent
groups, and government offices; and (c) leading the Mobilizing
Knowledge About Development (MKAD) project. The MKAD project
consists of interdisciplinary, intersectoral initiatives that (a)
develop, execute, and evaluate specific knowledge-mobilization
activities to determine how effective they are for moving knowledge
into active service; and (b) build the capacity of university
students, researchers, and community members to work together in
conducting and using community-based research by using Seminars/
Workshops on Community-Based Research for Community Members, and by
establishing a Graduate Certificate Program in Community-Based Research.
Community-Based Research
The ADRM will (a) consult and broker research activities on and off
campus among researchers, policymakers, and community practitioners,
and (b) facilitate multidisciplinary, applied research by assisting
to design and manage CUP research projects.
Administration and Project Management
The ADRM will also assist with (a) serving as an alternate to the
Director on subcommittees or other groups; (b) writing grant
proposals for funding support (both for core functions and projects);
(c) strategic planning, policy development, and problem solving; and
(d) supervising day-to-day operations of the centre including human
resources, financial management, and administration.
A Master’s degree is required in a related discipline (education,
health, social work, nursing psychology, etc.), although a Ph.D. is
preferred. The applicant’s experience and skills should include:
Experience in community-based research and/or program evaluation
Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies (e.g.,
longitudinal approaches)
Experience with adult learning, curriculum development, and/or
knowledge mobilization
Experience in collaborative, community-based, and/or intersectoral
project work
Experience in project management, administration, and staff supervision.
This is a full-time trust position for a one-year term, with the
possibility for renewal. The position has a salary range from $56,000
to $70,000, contingent on qualifications and experience, and a
comprehensive benefits package.
