Pound of prevention, ounce of cure?

Dear.Colleagues
This editorial is interesting. Even "Secondary Prevention"
or "Early diagnosis" or "Screening" or "Check up" may be a kind
of "Medicalization of Health". Many screening test are NOT
evidence based. United states Preventive Services Task Force
(USPSTF) does meta_analysis about effectiveness of screening
tests. In recent monthes this organization clarified
that "Screening for Coronary artery diseases" among low risk
patients is NOT necessery(The U.S. Preventive Services Task
Force (USPSTF) recommends against routine screening with resting
electrocardiography (ECG), exercise treadmill test (ETT), or
electron-beam computerized tomography (EBCT) scanning for
coronary calcium for either the presence of severe coronary
artery stenosis (CAS) or the prediction of coronary heart
disease (CHD) events in adults at low risk for CHD events.
Rating: D recommendation),PSA is not necessery, There is no
enough evidence for or against of diabetes screening during
normal pregnancy... Please check the web site of USPSTF for
useful and evidence-based information about effectiveness of
screening tests : http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstfix.htm
           Best regards, Mohammad Z.Pezeshki
